A Look Inspired by Anne Bonny: Channeling a Pirate’s Wardrobe Reimagined

For this look, I wanted to bring Anne Bonny’s fearless energy to life. I borrowed my boyfriend’s Halloween pirate costume to step into her world, which felt perfectly fitting since Anne herself famously borrowed men’s clothing to move freely and command authority.

In the photo, I’m wearing a ruffled white blouse tucked into high-waisted black trousers, pulled together with a detailed silver belt that adds just enough shine. Over that, I layered a long, textured black coat that has a hint of drama and mystery. The tricorn hat finishes the look, giving it that eighteenth-century flair, while the tall black boots ground everything in strength and confidence. The red lipstick was my final touch…a small modern nod to her fiery personality.

When I posed with the book in hand, I wanted to channel more than just a costume. It was about embodying Anne’s spirit: bold, intelligent, and unapologetically herself. She broke rules to live fully, and I love how that translates into fashion today. Borrowing, adapting, and reimagining pieces is part of what makes style powerful.

This look is my little tribute to her. An exploration of how fashion and literature meet in the space between history and imagination, and how clothing can tell the same story words once did.
