Victory Red & Polka Dot Power: Styling Bésame Through Les Liaisons

Readers, why polka dots and Victory Red? Because when staging this collaboration, I didn’t just want to wear the lipstick..I wanted to costume the essence of Les Liaisons Dangereuses with a 1940s twist.

This look is not just a tribute it’s a costume of cultural memory.

To embody Les Liaisons Dangereuses, I chose a red polka dot skirt and Bésame’s Victory Red lipstick, both historically rooted in femininity and control.

Here’s how the look came together:

  • Red Polka Dot Skirt – Thrifted via @ThredUp. Polka dot textiles became symbols of luxury and flirtation in 18th-century France and Spain, embraced by upper-class women for their bold, whimsical charm.

  • Bergère Hat – A romantic nod to 18th-century aristocratic fashion, this hat echoed the pastoral idealization embraced by elite women. Mine is part of the Literature Meets Fashion collection and will be available for pre-order soon.

  • Pearl Accessories & Brooch – Designed by Literature Meets Fashion, these pieces elevate the look with literary symbolism and classic elegance.

  • Victory Red Lipstick – Bold, commanding, and reminiscent of both battlefield grit and boudoir strategy.

The styling bridges two eras: the performative power of the Marquise and the unapologetic glamour of 1940s womanhood. Every detail from textile to tint serves a narrative.
